President Elect

    General Description

    The President Elect for the SFC Board of Directors (BOD) is responsible for learning the duties of the role of President, helping facilitate officer transition, and assuming the President role on the BOD at the end of the current President’s term. This position is a volunteer position without compensation.

    The President Elect is a one year position. Following the one year term, the President Elect will assume the President role on the BOD. The President serves as an Executive Officer for the BOD. All Executive Officers are appointed for 3-year terms, but may be renewed indefinitely on an annual basis.

    Authority

    The President Elect does not have any authority, including voting, until assuming the responsibilities and duties of President. As an Executive Officer, the President will be a general voting member of the board and will be a signatory for all SFC legal documents. The President Elect may continue to perform current duties/roles within the club until assuming the role of President.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Assumes the duties of the President in the temporary absence of the President, which can include serving as the presiding officer for Board of Directors.
    • The President-Elect collaborates with the President to learn the role of the President, to become familiar with the programs of SF Curling and its governance, and to develop and facilitate officer transition.
    • Will work with current President to transition responsibilities and duties within the one year term, with assumption of full responsibilities by beginning of Presidential term.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • As a future Director, the President Elect will participate in and provide support for SFC events and activities.
    • Compliance with all necessary trainings and qualifications as outlined by USA Curling and SFC.

    Qualifications

    Though no experience is required, SFC will most benefit from a President Elect who has experience leading and building organizations, particularly nonprofit entities with tax exempt status. A professional background in civil service, community outreach, fundraising, business, or organizational leadership is preferred, though not required.

    A successful President Elect will also possess a working knowledge of MS Office, basic website development and design, and web-based communication tools; and organizational skills to manage needed legal documents and paperwork relevant to Sioux Falls Curling.
